AI Gunner Hire is an environment mod that lets you hire your own AI gunners to aim various turrets for you! No friends or fiddling with extreme latency/desyncs required!
Use ?gunner_commands to get started.

Make sure to report any script related issues in the comments! The AI being dumb does not count..

The gunner AI included in Stormworks: Search and Destroy is not particularly smart, and requires a fairly specific setup to operate. The requirements are listed here:

- A seat with a unique name. The seat's AI type should be set to 'Gunner' for it to work as intended. The seat's AI type can be set at the bottom of it's configuration menu in the editor.

- All weapons on a turret aimed by this AI should share the seat's name, otherwise the AI will not control them.

- The AI aims with the W/S and A/D control axes, and will activate the Trigger node when the gun is facing the target. I suggest setting the Trigger's keybind type to 'Push' in the control seat's configuration for best results.

- Using robotic pivots is recommended, as the AI does not work well with 360 degree turrets. if a pivot turns the wrong way when pressing one of the associated keys, then the AI will not be able to aim it!

The AI under your command default to automatic targeting. This means they will automatically aim and fire at any nearby hostile AI spawned by the default weapons DLC AI script. With a command, the AI can be switched into manual targeting, where vehicles can be targeted by name or ID. AIs in manual targeting will not automatically target anything, and will focus your designated target until told otherwise.
The targeting mode of gunners can be changed as of V3. Use ?gunner_commands to learn more

If you would like to remove AI gunners from your ship, simply unseat them and they will immediately disappear, ready for you or a new gunner to take their place.
