Fiorelli - Exploration Vessel

I'd like to present the Fiorelli. It is a versatile retro style exploration vessel that can also serve as a small freighter or even tanker. Carries suitable equipment for a wide variety of tasks, to be self-sufficient during long explorations. It is therefore fundamentally suitable for sea rescue, but not designed for this purpose. It thought to be a civilian conversion of a decommissioned Danish Agdlek-class patrol vessel (built year 1973) and carries a simple tender at the stern.

Highly inspired by the Agdlek-Class Artic Patrol Cutters[www.navalhistory.dk] of the Kongelige Danske Marine (Royal Danish Navy), some of which got civilian conversions after decommissioning, like the Juvel II[www.marinetraffic.com], which gave me the idea to create this cutter. The aim was to create an easy to use versatile retro style vessel with some scratches and rust for playing alone or with friends.

The ship got the Stormy Award for the Best Exploration Sea Vessel in 2021. I'm very honored!

Technical data:
  • LOA 31.25 m.
  • LWL 29.50 m.
  • Beam 7.75 m.
  • Height 17.50 m (13.75 m with folded masts)
  • Draft max. 2.75 m.
  • Lightweight of about 27.5 t.
  • Displacement of about 75.5 t.
  • Max. speed of 48 km/h or 25 knots.
  • Cruising speed of about 30 km/h / 15 knots with a fuel consumption of ~60 l/min
  • Range of over 300 km (more if hold is used as additional fuel tank)

Features:
  • Simple control and gear system (R - N - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5)
  • Bow thruster, dynamic steering support and the option for manual clutch control for high manoeuvrability.
  • Foldable masts to be able to cross the omnipresent railway bridges.
  • Lab, office, equipment room and a spacious galley
  • Roomy cargo deck and hold with remote controlled derrick.
  • The hold can also be used for fluid transportation or as additonal fuel tank for far exploration tours.
  • Additional stern fluid tank
  • Transport capacity of about 75 t / 75,000 l without big impact on performance or handling. Can be used as a makeshift tanker.
  • Tender at stern on its own davit (which should be automatically stowed after spawn, but the function is unreliable depending on the weather).
  • Crow's nest with rope lift - this one is finicky, you have to hold the handle with q or e and press the button with the respective other one. At the nest you have to hold the handle there before letting the lift handle go to enter the nest. It is usable even in heavy sea at full speed. Be very careful not to take one of the ropes, this breaks the lift (I'd love to have an option at the rope etc. anchors to prevent manual removal). I know its not very good in the current state, but every alternative would have been way more massive. Any ideas for optimization?
  • Sinkable. Just toggle the experiment button in the lab. (This feature is extra for you, CattyKat)
  • Lots of equipment (including basic fire fighting gear, artic gear, two sets of diving equipment and lots of ropes, hoses, cables and tools.)
  • High level of automation and optimisation: Two active stabilisation systems, dynamic steering support, automatic time based deck lighting, stay on course function, automatic tender stowage, automatic heater...
  • Suitable for non-unlimited fuel (Have fun, Thabdox).
  • Spawn cost at ~270.000 $

Simple Startup:
  • Please check for the tender to be stored correctly before moving the ship to prevent damages.
  • Enter the bridge and turn the starter key (leave it on). Control the speed via the gearstick on the right side of the helm. That's it.

Known Issues:
  • The tender doesn't get stowed if the physics detail option is on low. Please use this vessel with physics detail on medium or high.

Update 16.05.21:
  • Used the empty space at the aft to create a fluid tank at the stern with a capacity of about 17,000 l, which can be used as another additional fuel tank. Acting as a counterweight the hold can now be filled further without the bow getting to deep into the water, meaning that the total fluid transport capacity nearly doubled and is now at slightly under 75,000 l in total.
  • Repaired the refill pipe of the tender.
  • Optimized the horizontal movement of the derrick.
  • Renamed the tender connector buttons (Thanks, Tirubix)
  • A few dabs of color were added here and there.

Update 04.06.21:
  • Previous update broke the tender fuel pump electric and data connection. Reconnected them. Thanks @naizey_lines!

Update 12.06.21:
  • Connected the fluid meter of the stern fluid tank. Thanks @stukai!

Update 05.08.21:
  • Increased the hold fluid pump out speed by about 56 %. Still suboptimal (any ideas for improvement?)
  • Optimized the stabilization system while in reverse gear.
  • Some minor decoration added.

Update 01.03.22:
  • Improved stabilization systems and added heeling angle indicator to the bridge.
  • Optimized the hold course function to avoid heavy oversteering - but its still wonky if you cross the 0°/360° line
  • Thanks @Gigelex for the recent feedback!

Update 05.02.23:
  • Finally solved the annoying sliding issue.
  • Thanks @WolfBloodHound for pointing me in the right direction!

Uses the awesome Remote Controller Settings Microcontroller made by Struner. Thank you very much for this helpful creation!

All other parts of the ship and all microprocessors were done by myself. Please use them as you like.

I'd like to thank Ibram_Gaunt for his help with final testing and feedback.

Any feedback and suggestions are appreciated.

I hope you enjoy this build, have fun!

How do I download and install mods?

How do I install this mod?

See the 'How to install' tab.

Is this mod safe to use?

The mods are repacked as is, without any additional software, malware, or bloatware added. To check for viruses, use a reliable antivirus or upload the archive to a website like virustotal.com. Anyway, It's always a good practice to keep backups of your saves in case of mod incompatibility .

For vehicle mods

  1. Download the .zip archive containing the vehicle mod files.
  2. Locate your game's root folder.
  3. Navigate to rom\data\preset_vehicles_advanced and extract the files there.
  4. Rename both files to something recognizable, ensuring they share the same base name but different extensions.
  5. Launch the game and go to the Workbench's Presets tab to see the new vehicle mod.
